Chicago -- where hope died and was reborn
Submitted by bboldt2 on Wed, 11/05/2008 - 1:28pm.I was back in my old home town last night, in spirit, if not in the flesh, standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of my countrymen in Grant Park in The City of The Big Shoulders.
All The King's Horses
Submitted by bboldt2 on Mon, 11/03/2008 - 9:56pm.I went down to the Sarah Palin rally today at the Missouri state capitol in Jefferson City. I fully expected to make a negative report. To my relief, I was delighted with the mood of the crowd and the rhetoric. It seems Sarah has toned down her fiery language considerably from previous events. I was hoping for this. I mean, if you are going to go out, at least have the grace to go out with some shred of dignity. Before the arrival of Sarah, there was the usual line up of Repug hopefuls’ gassy speeches, lead by Master of Ceremonies, Governor wannabee, Kenny Hulshof.
VOTE!

Submitted by BillinMidMO on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 3:38pm.This from Thomas in Jefferson City:
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5? What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
Fulton turns out for Obama
Submitted by BillinMidMO on Fri, 10/03/2008 - 9:35pm.A large group of Callawegians turned out to watch the Biden /Palin debate this week. Folks in Callaway County are really fired up for Obama. This week the Fulton Sun ran the front page headlined story "Obama campaign reaches out to the deaf community" The article on the local campaign's efforts to use adaptive telephone technology to reach hearing impaired persons was picked up by Politico, Daily Kos and Huffington Post.

First Debate...Thoughts on Style and Substance...
Submitted by bboldt2 on Fri, 09/26/2008 - 11:05pm.I want to get this out tonight before I have a chance to read how they of the mainstream media think it went and how they think I should think it all went.
The most glaring thing I noticed about watching the debate had more to do with style than substance - I suppose. Actually sometimes style can indicate things that lie beneath. I think McCain is actually afraid of Obama. This had to be seen to be believed: I only caught him deliver one (1) furtive 1/60th of a second glance over to Obama in the whole debate. I am reviewing the tape and will get back to you if I find any other example of McCain actually looking in Obama's direction. The rest of the time his glance was riveted on Jim Lehrer with all the intensity of the gaze of someone watching a small screen TV in a neck brace. He didn't even address the camera when delivering his direct responses to questions. He seemed wooden, nervous, and his expression seemed pasted on. Obama, on the other hand, seemed relaxed and animated. His glance moved comfortably from moderator to camera, to audience and, a large part of the time, directly at McCain - especially when he was addressing specific points of difference between them.
Black Monday

The first thing I thought of when I read the headlines with the news of the demise of Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch was, what would Howard Kunstler have to say about all this?
http://jameshowardkunstler.typepad.com/
I didn’t see Stephanopolous’ interview with Greenspan on Sunday and am so happy to have missed it. These days, even the sight of that clueless old fool is enough to send my blood pressure (normally, surprisingly low for my advanced years) into a stratospheric inflationary spiral.

I am somewhat surprised to find no mention of this anniversary on these pages. I was not planning to contribute this piece because of its length – but in the absence of any other comments, I feel compelled to put my two cents in.
I went back over my own archives and found this piece I wrote on Sept, 20th, 2001.

8 More Shocking Revelations About Sarah Palin
By Isaac Fitzgerald and Tana Ganeva, AlterNet
Posted on September 3, 2008, Printed on September 3, 2008

Since the McCain campaign apparently didn't even bother Googling Sarah Palin before picking her to join the Republican ticket, we've taken it upon ourselves to compile some important -- and terrifying -- revelations about Palin.
Live...from the DNC Convention in Denver Colorado! Thoughts from a Missouri CD9 Obama delegate.
Submitted by BillinMidMO on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 9:49pm.After a 12 hour drive starting at 4:30 in the morning...I am checked into our Hotel (16 miles from the Convention site!) and am preparing to crash for the night.
I have had time to look over some of the welcome articles included in not one but two cloth goody bags prepared for the Delegates. Seems we must really like to drink coffee on the fly as there are two insulated travel mugs. Also two T shirts...one of them long sleeve which may come in handy here in the evenings. And...let us not forget the yellow rubber ducky...no kidding!
There is a lot of excitement here, and some good business is taking place including what I hear was a very productive meeting of the Rules Committee which is determined to correct the Primary process. (Please... no more Florida/Michigan calamities)
UPDATE:
THere is a whirlwind of excitement and activity here...little WiFi access and no time to post...I am sorry for the lack of updates since Sunday. Check out the Boone County Dems website for pics I have managed to upload. They are not well labeled/edited as yet but capture the excitement:

The Clueless Pundits
Submitted by Ed4DFC on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 3:52pm.Wayne has an excellent article on Left in Missouri about how clueless the punditry is when it comes to 9th Congressional politics. The press has continuously gone to these "experts" for political analysis, despite their history of being wrong!

The last Mid Missouri Primary Debate by DfMO this season...well done and most revealing.
Submitted by BillinMidMO on Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:11pm.The Fulton Sun provided some really good front page coverage of the debate conducted by Democracy for Missouri last evening between David Moen and Don Salcedo. These two excellent candidates are running to be the Democratic nominee for 20th District MO House of Representatives. Check out the Fulton Sun article:

The Primary election this Tuesday will decide. Whoever is nominated will need our help to take back Callaway County for the Democratic Party.
Missouri Democrats must win back the House and Senate to start the healing process under our new Governor Jay Nixon. We need 11 new House seats...lets do it!
